Social Exposure Media:
Dream Side Pool Party
Visionary Artistry Magazine teamed up with the NYC-based PR brand Social Exposure Media for a historical event that welcomed over 350 art lovers to “escape New York,” and “dive into a dream,” at the Grace Hotel in Manhattan.
Social Exposure Media headed by Sally Golan created a “Dream Side Pool Party,” complete with six surreal artists, a pool flooded with rubber duckies, an electronic violinist, a sexy female house music-driven DJ, co-ed saunas and steam rooms, as well as gift bags that included vibrators from the famed sex shop Babeland. There was a Voli Vodka sponsored bar and a sh*t load of over-heated New Yorkers in their bathing suits. Yes…people actually took a plunge. People got wet. Soaking wet.
But, that’s the beauty of New York City; there is a party every night. A special event, a new restaurant opening, a new hotel, a roof-top party, a cocktail den….you name it. So how does one stand out? Social Exposure Media welcomed the challenge and dove head-first into the over-saturated party scene and created history. The brand is about turning heads and forcing people to step outside their comfort zones while experiencing something new with every original event produced.
Last Wednesday on July 27th , the artsy crowd experienced five award-winning artists create live, surreal-inspired paintings, sculptures and light shows.
Artists such as, Katerina Gubina, Ryan V Brennan, Nick Hayes, Todd Monaghan and Kaliptus Arts were invited to the event. They were given the task of creating a “fantasy and dream like world,’’ by transforming the indoor pool of the Grace Hotel into Salvador Dali’s man cave.
I am giving them complete freedom. I said: ‘I like your work. Here’s the venue. Now GO’. And we will see what happens,” said Golan.
Social Exposure is not a promo company or a club-oriented brand. It is a creative, high concept public relations conglomerate that prides itself on featuring up and coming talents from fashion, to film, to fine art while inviting people to collaborate in physical activity and mass unity,” explains Golan. “I hand pick these artists and give them the spotlight in front of media and art lovers. And If I am going to throw a pool party, it’s going to be a surreal pool party,” she boasts.
The featured artists were invited to create surreal installations in and out of the pool that would create an immersive environment. Artist Ryan V. Brennan hung his 3D collage work on the walls of the venue. His artwork consisted of vibrant designs that busted out of the frames as if Salvador Dali’s ghost punched through the paper. People stared in awe, convinced they would get sucked in somehow. Katerina Gubina, a young but budding photographer, projected images of surreal erotica on a huge white wall that consisted of images of a naked woman filled with lust, light and a certain french ambiance. Veteran High Fashion Photographer Nick Hayes displayed his collection of surreal photography works that blurred the lines between photographs and paintings. From high fashion to surreal city scapes his works are magazine worthy.
Bess Wyrick of Celadon and Celery Events dressed three live women in huge, life-sized flower arrangements with massive tikki stands and leafy displays that took you from the busy streets of New York to beautiful Honolulu, Hawaii.
Kaliptus Arts, an expert installationist whose works have been exposed at the famed “Burning Man” exhibitions, created a huge balloon Octopus with blue LED lights that eventually found its way down to the pool where alcohol soaked New Yorkers dismembered the creature and played with the lights relentlessly.
MRI Light Paintings sponsored the event with an interactive light painting photo booth. Stand in front of the camera, wave a magic wand around, snap a photo and boom! There is your picture projected on a wall with tons of luminescent, surreal looking lights, surrounding your face like ghosts made of rainbows. Electric Violin Diva Sarah Charness rocked the crowd with a pink, electric guitar shaped violin alongside DJ Heather M. The crowd clapped, cheered and watched in awe. Who knew a violin could be so cool.
It was no wonder that the party went from 8 pm until 2 am. On a Wednesday night mind you…work the next day was rough.
“I take pride in the fact that my parties are not just parties. They are true events that people look forward to. That people remember and talk about. And it is really all because of the artists who create such a unique experience like no other,” beams Golan.
What’s next? Social Exposure has many tricks up their sleeve. A chocolate mud bath party, the all white lingerie pillow fight in the clouds party (we will build cottony clouds for this one), the fall naked-painting party, the underground speak easy and many more. Stay tuned…
