Missoni is a fashion house based out of Varese, Italy. Famous for its loud patterns of stripes, zig zags, waves and more. This ready-to-wear fashion line is designed to be bold. The patterns are meant for mixing and matching, and creating wearable art. However, there is more to Missoni than just creativity. Behind the fabric and the designs lies a story of love and passion.

Having passed their 50 year anniversary and with their 60th fast approaching, Missoni’s name has been rapidly spreading. The brand is now easily accessible at your local Target and adds the perfect pop of color to any fall and winter wardrobe. For this we can thank Tai and Rosita Missoni. After marrying in 1953, the couple began a knitwear shop in the basement of their first home. It wasn’t until the late 60s that the two moved their location to Sumirago, Italy and began to create the image for their brand.

If you take a look at the patterns and designs of the Missoni line, you notice how similar they are. The brand has a clearly defined statement that is incredibly unique. No matter how you pair the pieces, they always seem to fit and paint a picture. The inspiration behind this concept is the beauty of where the couple started their brand. It was the mountains, the skyline, the woods and the colors of the seasons that inspired Tai and Rosita to create this popular brand.

Though at first their clothing was handmade, it was with the expansion of technology that their ideas were able to evolve into the ground breaking fashion trend that we know it for today. Their textile machines are state-of-the-art and allow for all of the great shading and hues to appear bright on the fabrics. The clothing is so exciting and now dresses many celebrities such as singers Jennifer Lopez and Madonna. Regardless of its modern appearance, the designs incorporate vintage trends that once combined daring colors and patterns, create a look that can never be outdated.

The kaleidoscope effects that are created from the combination of patterns and fabrics are far from subtle, while the shape of the clothing itself remains sharp. The objective is to create a classy silhouette, but with unforgettable, eye-catching motifs. Their unique creations have created a widely spreading trend and it is fantastic to see that they are now readily available and far more affordable not only in the United States, but for savvy shoppers as well.
