Michael Baisden has become one of the most influential figures in the African American community. Through his high energy he educates and entertains his audience. He loves to interact with his listeners; this is one of the many reasons why The Michael Baisden Talk Show is a success. The host has been a catalyst for change in the African American community by bringing attention to various issues that affect African Americans such as promoting health, the high unemployment for minorities , and politics.

The Chicago native began his career in radio in 2003 when 98.7 KISS FM in New York City offered him a position as the afternoon drive-time host. However due to budget constraints the station could not offer him a salary. According to his biography on michaelbasisden.com, his response was, “Just give me the damned mic!” In six months, the station’s afternoon drive ratings went from number 9 to number 1. After eight months of consistent high ratings, the budding host wanted to take his show to the national level but management was apprehensive. He threatened to quit if management did not pursue a syndication deal. “There was no doubt in my mind that I could have one of the hottest shows on radio! I knew the impact it would have on people all across the country and I wasn’t taking no, for an answer,” Michael rebutted.
His humble beginnings in radio are proof of the passion he has for his craft. When Mr. Baisden speaks people listen and will rally together to support his message. An example of his influence is when he passionately led the famous Jena 6 March in Jena, Louisiana. This historic occasion gathered thousands of citizens of all races to peacefully march in support of six young men who were treated unfairly by the justice system. Six black students at Jena High School in Central Louisiana were arrested last December after a school fight in which a white student was beaten and suffered a concussion and multiple bruises. In addition, he urged millions of listeners to wear black on September 20th in protest of unequal justice. The news traveled throughout the country, everyone wore black in support of the Jena 6, from college students of all races to corporate executives. During this time I was a senior in high school and because of Michael Baisden I was inspired to become apart of the Jena 6 movement and decided to join a protest at Temple University in (include location). His reach transcends all ages and no matter the issue he has the ability to make it relatable to everyone.

The host has also used his talent and influence in the non-profit sector and politics. In late January 2012? he endorsed President Barack Obama in the Democratic primary. According to his biography, “The Obama camp along with millions of listeners credited Michael with being one of the major forces behind this historic victory to elect the first African American to the Presidency of the United States.” Also Baisden called for a National Mentor Training Day and announced his plans for a nationwide campaign. He pledged up to $350,000 of his own money to be donated in over 72 markets he would visit on a bus tour. The outreach tour was named “One Million Mentors National Campaign To Save Our Kids.” He challenged his listeners to match or beat his donations and get involved.
Michael Baisden has a true gift and he uses it for the accession of the African American Community. In 2012?, Michael continues to expand his media reach by creating a ground breaking documentary film titled, “Do Women Know What They Want? It focuses on asking several women about their preferences in a relationship. “It was time for something new and exciting, and no one else was doing it, not like this!” Michael said. Get ready! It looks like the baddest man on radio and late night TV, will be in theaters near you soon!
