Though fashion designer Rebecca Taylor was born and fashionably bred in New Zealand, oddly enough her clothing line took off in the United States. After attending St. Catherine’s College in Wellington, she went from job to job including making outfits for frog puppets for a film called “Meet The Feebles.” It was this job opportunity that sparked her interest in fashion design and with her dream in one hand and $600 in the other, Taylor decided to move to New York City.
She explained to Lucire.com that her road to success was neither fast nor easy, “It was a day-by-day thing. When I first started I had the philosophy, “If anyone can, a Kiwi can. Build it and they will come,” and I think that really helped. New York is cut-throat but if you make a product that people buy and you deliver on time and your price point is right, it is completely doable.”
Now with years under her belt, Taylor has one of the most successful clothing brands in the fashion industry with numerous celebrities buying her items off the racks. Her clientele includes singer/actress Jennifer Lopez, and actresses Reese Witherspoon, Cameron Diaz, Katherine Heigl to name a few. Her looks have also been used in the blockbuster movie “Sex and the City” and the hit show “Gossip Girl”
Taylor’s clothing has garnered such a huge fan base because she’s bringing the pretty, playful and feminine aspect back to fashion and adding her modern spin on it. As Infomat.com describes it, “The” Rebecca Taylor collection is best known for providing the eternally evolving modern girl with fresh, feminine clothing to compliment and refine her individual sense of style.”

Aside from a collection of quirky blouses, daytime dresses and pencil skirts, Taylor’s collection has added jewelry, handbag and shoe lines to her commercially successful brand. Today, her dream has been morphed into a multi-million dollar brand that can be found in select department stores in over 40 countries and 250 cities worldwide.

“The Rebecca Taylor girl has a timeless sense of style with a modern feminine edge,” Taylor told British Vogue as she described what her customers look for in a fashion. “She’s playful, cool and sophisticated and loves finding unique fresh pieces to update her eclectic wardrobe. She is confident and creative and she’s not afraid to have fun mixing prints, textures, and color. She’s always on trend, while maintaining her own, individual style.”
