Megan Huntz: Bringing Italian Fashion to the Southeast

Atlanta native, Megan Huntz, is a champion for the fashion movement. Sustainability, ethically sourced materials, and shopping local are all things the fashion designer prioritizes. Thus, Huntz manufactures all of her clothes in the city. Her website even boasts that MH Fine Clothing is “fashion made ethically in Atlanta, GA.” By producing garments locally, she has more control over where her materials come from and can ensure sustainability is practiced. The designer further uplifts her community by naming her pieces after the friends that inspired their creation.

Self Liberated: The Recap

Juneteenth is approaching and celebrations are underway in the city of Atlanta. Everyone has their own unique way of recognizing the historic and purposeful holiday. Celebration can come in many different forms and earlier this month, The Self Liberated Fine Art Exhibition served as a reflective, penetrating and purposeful reminder of why we gather to celebrate not only our ancestors, but each other.

Underexposed: Recognizing Women in Photography

In 2018, a study was conducted across 820,000 art exhibitions that were public and commercial sectors, discovering that only one-third of the museums and galleries featured women artists. Further, a data analysis of 18 major art museums found their collections are 87% male and 85% white. Simply put, women artists and photographers have had to consistently fight for recognition.

The High Museum of Art created an exhibit called “Underexposed” to shed light on diverse female photographers throughout history.

Sophie and the Giants: UK’s Latest Pop Sensation

For Sophie and the Giants, a four-member group formed in Sheffield, England, narrowing down their music to one specific genre would almost be counterproductive.

Naomi Osaka: Opening the Way

Professional sports have never been there to care for the players that bring them such large amounts of money and attention; from the chronic traumatic encephalopathy in professional football to severely underpaying the WNBA and the Women’s National Soccer Team. Aspects of athletics that are not frequently in the conversation are physical health, aftereffects of a professional career, or work-life balance, let alone the mental health of current athletes in their prime. Recently, tennis star Naomi Osaka has been the feature of news due to her refusal to do press for the French Open, and her ultimate withdrawal from the tournament and announcement of a hiatus from the sport.
