Jonathan Simkhai: Boundless Female Fashion

On the first Monday of May, actress Taraji P. Henson stunned on the MET gala red carpet in an ornate custom gown created by SIMKHAI, the namesake brand of designer Jonathan Simkhai. For her third time as a guest at fashion’s most glamorous event, Henson wanted a large train, and she knew Simkhai was the right choice after seeing just a few sketches. “He made my dream come true,” Henson told Entertainment Tonight on the MET Gala red carpet.

SWAIA Fashion Week: The First U.S. Native Fashion Week

If you’re a fan of the Met Gala, you may have seen American actress Lily Gladstone in a black dress and cape decorated in star-shape jewelry by men’s and womenswear designer Gabriela Hearst and indigenous jeweler Keri Ataumbi or Quannah Chasinghorse wearing a stunning multicolored beaded neck piece by beadwork artist Heather Dickson. These two took this year’s Met Gala by storm and drew attention to amazing works by indigenous designers.

The basketball star is originally from Randallstown, Maryland. Basketball runs deep in her family. Both of her parents were basketball players when they were in college. Her younger brother Julien plays basketball as well.
