Karma’s World

The coolest thing about me is being a #GirlDad. My two daughters, from the time they were born have given me a purpose that I never imagined. Sharing my love and passions with them, and watching them grow and develop their own individual passions is without question the coolest thing about me. This past week, I was introduced to a dope contribution by fellow member of the Girl Dad squad, Ludacris. The Netflix show “Karma’s World,” was crafted by Ludacris and inspired by his eldest daughter, Karma Bridges.

Alexandra Shipp knew what she wanted and went for it at the age of 17, when she left everything behind in Arizona and moved to Los Angeles, the city of dreams, to pursue an acting career. Shipp attended Arizona School for the Arts as a teen, where she fell in love with the art of acting in addition to her preexisting passion for music.

Land of a Thousand Hills: Rwandan Coffee for Rwandan Communities

The delicious taste of Rwanda’s specialty coffee has become a popular staple in the world's coffee industry. Its signature fruity flavor has made its way to several American coffee shops and companies like Starbucks and Amazon. However, one company, in particular, sells Rwandan coffee with a much larger vision and heartfelt purpose. Named after Rwanda’s vast and mountainous countryside, Land of a Thousand Hills is an international coffee company with several cafe locations around Atlanta's neighborhoods and metropolitan areas, like Old Fourth Ward, Alpharetta, Midtown, and Roswell. The company takes every dollar a customer spends and uses the money toward an initiative that leaves your heart just as warm as the cup of coffee you order.

Ottawa Kwami: A Look Can Change Your Life

In 2018, well-known Ghanaian-American fashion designer Virgil Abloh acted as artistic director for luxury fashion brand Louis Vuitton in Paris, France. There, he presented to the world Ottawa Kwami, who has now become one of the most famous and sought-after male models in the industry at just twenty years old.

The Harder They Fall: A Black Western

I have never been a fan of Western TV shows or movies. My interest was never sparked by the repetitive themes that revolved around a revenge-seeking protagonist, a dirty money bandit, and quick-draw duels at high noon, all playing out to a folk music soundtrack. Even though these elements made Westerns the most booming genre of the 20th century, I never gave it the time of day. This was until I watched the new Netflix movie “The Harder They Fall.” The film dusted off the played-out Western themes and added a tasty flare of Black history and culture to the screen.

Released on Oct. 22, "The Harder They Fall" is a spectacular Black Western co-written by singer-songwriter and director Jeymes Samuel (also known as The Bullitts). The movie features a Black cast of well-known actors/actresses like Regina King as “Trudy Smith,” Idris Elba as “Rufus Buck,” Deon Cole as “Wiley Escoe,” LaKeith Stanfield as “Cherokee Bill,” and Jonathon Majors as protagonist “Nat Love,” whose character is based upon the actual 19th-century cowboy, Nat Love.
