Tobias Jesso Jr. made his way from a singing solo career through the hotbed of the music industry and received the very first Songwriter of the Year, Non-Classical Grammy Award. 2023 is the category’s inaugural year and it rewards the written excellence, profession, and art of non-performing songwriters.

“This is more for all the other songwriters out there and all the other years that this category could have been a thing…I’m more grateful for the win for all of us,” Jesso said, according to Pitchfork.

Hip Hop DNA: Celebrating 50 Years

As listeners turn on their car radio, plug in their earphones or connect to their speakers, the faint sound of spray paint softly alludes and the voice of Ebro Darden is soon to be heard. 

Darden, an American radio personality and Global Editorial Head of hip hop and R&B for Apple Music, recently began a new journey as host of the Apple Music podcast “Hip Hop DNA.” It is a multi-series podcast that focuses on the core of hip-hop, taking a deep dive into the roots of the music genre. As hip-hop celebrates its 50th anniversary as a musical genre, the podcast is honoring hip-hop by bringing on several well-known hip-hop artists such as Lil Uzi Vert, Cardi B, and Beastie Boys.
