Major Lazer: Dance Music with a Jamaican Flair

It has been proven time and time again that nothing quite brings the world together like music. Whether it is the widespread meme appeal of bhangra hit “Tunak Tunak Tun,” or the inexplicable K-pop phenomenon, music has the power to link cultures from across the globe. One group attempting to harness this power is Major Lazer, a Jamaican-American trio that brings a Caribbean sound to mainstream pop and electronic dance music.

These are the sentiments of James McGovern, the frontman of Irish rock group The Murder Capital, and his bandmates. The Murder Capital quintet is a rock band that is doing its best in changing the narrative of what listeners think about rock and punk rock bands. However, like many others before them, they don’t give a shit what anyone else thinks about what anyone outside of their family and close friends thinks. Especially when it comes to what their music represents.

BerniE: I Care

Today, in honor of World Alzheimer’s Day, renowned visual artist Bernard “BerniE” Edmonds has collaborated with the Alzheimer’s Association and Alzheimer’s Los Angeles to present a debut song, an art collection and a music video entitled “I Care.”

Everyone has seen the movie Blade Runner. No “Must Watch,” movielist is complete without the infamous director’s cut. And, even more than the plot, one of the most striking parts of the movie is the fashion. The sleek, futuristic style shown has such a unique feeling, and I can’t imagine anyone who walked away from seeing it without at least thinking, “I kind of wish I had some of those fits.” But, despite being a year past the setting of the movie, very rarely does anything even in the ballpark of the iconic wardrobes ever come close to runway fashion—let alone actual purchasable things.
