In 2012, her unarmed 17-year-old son, Trayvon Martin, was shot and killed by 28-year-old George Zimmerman. He beat out Markiplier, PewDiePie, and Jeffree Star, two gaming YouTubers, and a beauty YouTuber, who make up some of the highest earners on the platform. He raked in a total of $26 million last year, out the second-place earner, Dude Perfect, a sports and comedy channel, by $6 million.
