Luxury leather handbags, fair trade, and ethical standards strike a movement across oceans with a burst of philanthropy and a dash of couture in a brand called Behno, founded by Shivam Punjya.
Behno means sister in hindi and gujarati, the native language of many of the companies’ garment workers. The idea was to bring about a collectiveness in their mission, and honor the working women in a humanitarian way rather than a degrading way; they are sisters, family, a community sharing experiences and parallel lives. For Shivam, it was the business model and factory implementations that struck his vision first, the fashion design work laid out secondary like a path beneath his every footstep.
