Amoako Boafo: Exhibition in Space

Many pieces of art can be considered out of this world, but this artist’s paintings are actually out of this world.

In 2021, Blue Origin’s New Shepard rocket was launched with three paintings on its exterior panels as part of the Uplift Art Program. The paintings were made with materials that would survive the journey into space and return to earth. Done in his signature finger-painting style, Amoako Boafo launched a self-portrait and portraits of his mother and childhood friend, Otis Kwame Kye Quaicoe, into space.

Tyler Mitchell: Visualizing Utopia

In September 2018, Beyoncé graced the cover of Vogue dressed in a frilly white dress and stunning floral headpiece. This was one of many images of the singer featured in that issue, all of which were praised for treading the line between reality and fantasy, documentary and portraiture, subtly refracting the glossy light that tends to fall on fashion and celebrity toward a softer, more nuanced feeling.

Karlie Kloss: Supermodel + Entrepreneur + Philanthropist

One of the most iconic Victoria’s Secret Angels of her time, Karlie Kloss has had a multitude of career developments in fashion, entrepreneurship, and philanthropy. 

Kloss was first discovered at 13 years old by a representative from Elite Model Management when she participated in a modeling contest at her local mall, the St. Louis West County Center. She walked her first New York Fashion Week in 2008, at 15 years old. She later joined Victoria’s Secret in 2011 where she walked her first runway and established herself as an Angel - a model who has a contract with the brand and is considered to be a spokesperson for the company. However, in 2015, Kloss left the agency to explore different career paths.

Shenseea: Blurring Dancehall and Pop

Kingston, Jamaican songwriter/vocalist Shenseea blurs the line between dancehall and pop to create songs with uniquely effervescent energy through the incorporation of reggae, rap, and R&B music styles. Having grown up listening to Whitney Houston, Michael Jackson, Céline Dion and the Isley Brothers, and looking up to her idols Nicki Minaj and Rihanna, Shenseea focuses on using her music to touch listeners and inspire them to proudly embrace their roots.

Sara Willadsen: Reimagining The Space Around Us

When most people pass by a construction site, they don’t give the scene a second thought and quickly go on with their day, but for artist Sara Willadsen, these sites are beautiful scenes that bring new life to areas. In her painting, “Rebuilding,” Willadsen depicts the rebuilding of an old home, showcasing the different layers that go into construction while highlighting the intricate relationship that exists between the different stages of the building process. The painting starts off with a sketch of the home, on top of that is the beginning of a wooden frame, and on top of that is an image of cranes lifting more beams up to create the final product.

Skilla Baby: The Coldest

Blending hard-hitting beats with introspective lyricism, Skilla Baby has brought a refreshing energy to the Hip-Hop landscape.

The Detroit, Michigan native’s career started during his teenage years, where he would spend his time after work trying to get stage time. He started going to the showcase put on by Hot 107.5’s DJ BJ and spent his paychecks to buy a spot on the showcase. After a year of doing this, Skilla caught the attention of Detroit rapper Sada Baby, who quickly took him under his wing.
