Dom Won Chang and his family founded one of the largest fast-fashion retailers in the US. They fully captured the “American dream,” having immigrated from South Korea in the mid-80s building their company from the ground up. For over thirty years, the Changs maintained a recognizable and fast-growing brand up until only a few years ago when the worldwide retailer suddenly filed for bankruptcy. This is the tragic tale of the fall and rebirth of the fast-fashion family retailer, Forever 21.

“People around punk rock are often people who care about more than just themselves, even if that means that they just try to be more kind or open to other people….”

-Justin Sane on Montreal Rocks

Punk is not like any other music genre. Punk is a lifestyle choice–a creed and a community, at least to the musicians behind the American punk-rock band from Pittsburgh, Anti-Flag. This group of anti-nationalist, anti-racist, anti-sexist musicians has operated in the zeitgeist for over thirty years.

To get a glimpse of what Anti-Flag is all about, consider their song titled “Hate Conquers All,” featured on their album 20/20 Vision, which starts off with a sample of former president Donald Trump giving a speech about quelling public protest. It’s a pro-protest bop commenting on the rhetoric that Trump used to rile his base.

What started as one man’s mission to make high-art/decor affordable to a mass market is now a national brand dedicated to independent artwork and showcasing outstanding work by big-name artists.

Martin Lawrence Galleries (MLG) has nine locations across the U.S. They’ve hosted notable works by legacy artists such as American pop artist Andy Warhol, post-impressionist Pablo Picasso, and neo-expressionist Jean-Michel Basquiat, to name a few.

The Power of Retrospective

A couple in a convertible facing the horizon.

A band of young trumpeters crossing the road.

A girl and a man walking toward a foggy footpath.

These are only brief descriptions of scenes captured by the magnum photographer Elliot Erwitt, and I was fortunate to observe some of his work this week at the Jackson Fine Art gallery on a Thursday morning, in Midtown, Atlanta.
