High fashion doesn’t have to mean outlandish or impractical fashion; some designers are changing everyday looks into chic and elegant pieces that are both usable and sustainable. Israeli-American fashion designer Nili Lotan has become known for her classy basics and styles, but her brand and looks extend far beyond that. Not only has she taken over the fashion world, specifically New York, she has also continued to grow as a brand that’s become associated with the world’s top celebrities and influencers. A recent collaboration with Target will also show Lotan’s sensibilities and high fashion to an audience that might not be familiar with her otherwise.

Following the success of 2020’s “King’s Disease,” the legendary rapper Nas and famed producer Hit-Boy decided to run it back and drop another album together. “King’s Disease,” was an incredible album for both Nas and Hit-Boy, as it marked the first Grammy award for Nas received during his 25+ year career. Prior to this award he had been nominated for 13 Grammy awards. Long overdue for sure, but it was well deserved as the two collaborated for what should go down as a modern-day classic.

There is freedom in fashion. The earrings, jackets, shoes, and everything else in between that we wear to express ourselves are extensions of who we are and what we want to portray to the world around us. With fashion, we showcase our individuality and serve as everyday models for the groundbreaking fashion designers who create the items we choose to wear.

The cut, creases, and colors should go beyond the purpose of just looking good. London-born fashion designer Grace Wales Bonner holds this value close. She is known for the distinctive designs of her eponymous label.

Imagine being extremely excited about entering your first science fair in high school, and as soon as you get there you notice that you’re the only Black girl in the room. This was Dasia Taylor’s experience at age 16.

Dasia and her mom live in a predominantly white suburb near Iowa City, IA. Dasia is an avid Black History buff, and spends a lot of her time after school in the Black History Game Show club. She also attends district and school board meetings in order to advocate for an anti-racist curriculum in schools. Dasia has a strong interest in science, and as a junior she took an honors chemistry class where that passion was able to flourish.
