In the last few years, American society has been obsessively nostalgic for the 1960s and ’70s. Every other movie with a theatrical release is set during the Woodstock era, bootcut flare jeans and jumpsuits have re-integrated themselves into popular fashion, and we can’t seem to let go of the glam makeup. But, one part of pop culture that is severely lacking in that free-love vibe is music. But, it isn’t completely barren. Houston born band Khruangbin uses sounds inspired by Indian and Thai funk music to resurrect the original lofi sound, a production style that utilizes elements usually regarded as imperfections are included to create a more authentic and unique execution.

Coffee and Black culture have not always gone hand in hand. There’s a lengthy history rooted in racism and colonialism, not to mention an incident in 2018 in which two men were arrested for being in a Philadelphia Starbucks without making a purchase as they waited for a friend to arrive. However, Los Angeles-based Illustrator and Fashion Designer Tuesday Bassen takes typical ideas of modern fashion, that of limited sizes and non-sustainable production, Bassen’s background in illustration allows her to not only make unique pins and patches, but her clothing designs are also original.

After playing for only four people in a dim college auditorium, it was evident that musician and non-fiction writer Michelle Zauner’s previous rock band, Little Big League, wasn’t working out. Then, shortly after this disappointing performance, Zauner received the crushing news that no 25-year-old wants to hear. Her mother, Chong Mi, was diagnosed with stage four cancer.

The worst nightmare of any parent is the thought of losing their child. But, for Sybrina Fulton, this wasn’t just a nightmare, it was her reality. In 2012, her unarmed 17-year-old son, Trayvon Martin, was shot and killed by 28-year-old George Zimmerman. Zimmerman wasn’t arrested for the shooting until two entire months later, and he was still acquitted a little over a year later by using Florida’s “Stand Your Ground,” law as his defense.
