According to Daniel Bartholomew-Poyser, he certainly remembers what sparked his interest in pursuing music, and in great detail at that. He never forgets where it came from, and this humbleness is a testament to his character. His ascension as one of the most recognizable names and faces in classical music comes from his hard work, his personality, and of course what some would call luck, but I call it maximizing his opportunities.

Entertainers and their clothes have always been a hot topic, particularly musicians. I think back to Prince being one of the greatest musicians of all time and his knack for wearing purple and shoes with a heel. Growing up as a Dipset fanatic, one of my favorite pictures is of the Rapper Cam’ron when he rocked the pink fur coat and pink fur hat  with his pink cell phone to his ear, a diamond chain on his neck and on his rings sending viewers into a trance. Sometimes the fashion choices are coincidental, but in their cases it was always intentional. They knew they were at the height of their respective genres, and that their influence was second to none. They took full advantage of that influence and if you don’t believe me? Check out some of these #TBT outfits the elders in your family was wearing.

For quite some time, Atlanta has been the ideal representation of affluence in the black community in the south. The rich history of thriving black businesses and black moguls is reflected throughout the music and film industry, and seeps into every aspect of black culture. There are numerous prominent black figures in the fashion and food industries, developing tech companies, etc. It’s such a welcoming environment for black business owners because of the various avenues being navigated. Atlanta has become a melting pot for black businesses. So it was an easy choice for Tristan Walker to make ATL the home of his beauty brand, Walker & Co.

It’s not often that I hear new artists that put me in the mindset of that old south, soulful hip-hop. I’m talking about the way you feel when someone like Big K.R.I.T spits on a track, and you can almost smell granny’s collard greens and candied yams on the stove, and hear the grease popping from the fried chicken or catfish in that cast iron skillet. Music artists that would bring you back to a time when you had to drink the water out the hose because you knew if you went back inside, you’d have to stay. You know, before central air was a regular household appliance.

When only granny’s room and the kitchen had A/C, and you weren’t allowed to go in either room and chill. So you’re stuck in the family room with the oscillating fan, trying to sit as close as possible for that 1.75 seconds of cool air. It’s a nostalgic feeling taking me back to some of the best times of my childhood that only certain artists can tap into.
