Mike Leavitt: Sculpting Modern Culture

In his early childhood years, Sculptor Mike Leavitt spent his time learning about graphic design and engineering. Raised in Seattle, WA his interest in art came from his parents. Another factor that sparked Leavitt's fascination for art was the Native American Scandinavian woodcraft, wooden figures that replicates important Native American figures of the Scandinavian tribe. The structure of the wooden carvings made the figures look spot-on.

For over thirty years, the Changs maintained a recognizable and fast-growing brand up until only a few years ago when the worldwide retailer suddenly filed for bankruptcy. This is the tragic tale of the fall and rebirth of the fast-fashion family retailer, Forever 21.

Myriam Belasse: Fashion is in my DNA

It may have been the scooped-neck red dress with the big puffy sleeves, the white skirt, white lace socks, shoes, and bag that she wore on Christmas Day, or those high-waisted sassy bell bottom jeans with the white belt that made Myriam Belasse, a young girl from Barbados stand out among the crowd. 

Either way Belasse’s mom, a professional seamstress had an eye for fashion and served as an unofficial stylist for her daughters. She worked as a professional seamstress who created stylish clothing, paired with matching accessories for her children, especially during the bank holidays. And, they became the talk of the town.

Punk is not like any other music genre. Punk is a lifestyle choice–a creed and a community, at least to the musicians behind the American punk-rock band from Pittsburgh, Anti-Flag. This group of anti-nationalist, anti-racist, anti-sexist musicians has operated in the zeitgeist for over thirty years.

To get a glimpse of what Anti-Flag is all about, consider their song titled “Hate Conquers All,” featured on their album 20/20 Vision, which starts off with a sample of former president Donald Trump giving a speech about quelling public protest. It’s a pro-protest bop commenting on the rhetoric that Trump used to rile his base.
