Blake Lively: The Fashionista

Blake Lively, as her name implies, is a vibrant icon in the fashion world. Even in the mid 2000s, if we look back on her first notable moments of fame in her signature role of “Serena van der Woodsen” in “Gossip Girl,” we can see how she has a long standing career as not only an actress, but as a fashion icon as well. Her name brings visions of color, elegance, and fearlessness in the world of fashion.

For those who appreciate an amazing assemble, Lively is not one to rival in what she wears. From red carpets to the big screen, and even through the city streets she does not cease to always look put together.

Several times a year we get to see a myriad of luxuriously dressed celebrities pose on carpets of all colors that lead to spectacular award shows. Especially for the Golden Globes, actors have a chance to show their opulence and fashion. Blake Lively never seems to disappoint at the Golden Globes. In fact, Margaret Gardiner’s “Fashion Icon: Blake Lively”, which is featured on the Golden Globe’s website, gives Margaret Gardiner writes an an extensive overview of fashion moments on the red carpet. It starts off by praising Lively of “not letting others define her. Taking on challenging roles. She’s also a mother and a wife. Amongst her many strings of accolades, fashion icon gets added.” One of her iconic Golden Globes’ outfits was a Versace dress: fitted jet black gown with golden sequin appliqués on the shoulders and pockets. The dress, like Lively, is the definition of sleek glamour.

Lively’s role as Serena van der Woodsen in “Gossip Girl” in 2008 was one marked by high school style. One could even call her the Carrie Bradshaw of high school dramas in the way they fearlessly own what they’ve decided to wear. Jessica Booth of Insider Magazine breaks down a few of Serena’s best outfits, describing the character’s fashion as, “big fan of wearing Herve Leger bandage dresses just to get a cup of coffee. She loved sequins and a good cut-out dress, owned hundreds of coats, and was rarely seen in a pair of flats. Most importantly, she fully owned every single look she waltzed outside in, even if it was completely inappropriate for the weather or occasion.”With Serena, we find the beginning of why so many look to Lively for couture inspiration.

Blake Lively is a woman of fashion duality, and that is something many people strive to have. She often walks the line of masculinity and femininity, brandishing anything from full-length gowns to fitted suits, which is a sign of a true icon. She’s even worn a double-breasted suit, coat to match, and a pair of blood-red Doc Martens. Which is the complete opposite of what she wears at the Golden Globes. Lively says to WWD, an online fashion blog, that “the hard part is going through all the fashion shows and screenshotting all the looks you like and calling them in. I have an assistant who helps in calling in the looks. But a lot of it is I have relationships with the designers.”She is a truly a titan in the style world, one that many women of all shapes, sizes, and color should be inspired by to push the bounds of their styles.
