Coffee and Black culture have not always gone hand in hand. There’s a lengthy history rooted in racism and colonialism, not to mention an incident in 2018 in which two men were arrested for being in a Philadelphia Starbucks without making a purchase as they waited for a friend to arrive. American coffee culture has an air of pretension and exclusion, and many coffee brands simply don’t market to black people, minorities, or women. It’s a touchy subject that many, many coffee brands don’t speak on, unless you’re Dope Coffee.
